Personality Box Project

We are going to work on our  Personality Box Projects for the next couple of days. Make sure you read the directions and look at the requirements. This is a time for you to reflect on who you are - take it seriously and be reflective.

Psychodynamic - unconscious motivations
  • internal conflicts
  • pleasure seeking vs social restraints
  • childhood dos and don'ts
  • fears/nightmares
Trait - specific dimensions
  • stable internal characteristics
  • questionnaires
Humanistic - inner capacity for growth
  • how do you view yourself?
  • what are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • what areas do you want to improve?
  • go through the list of "self-actualized" characteristics - how do you fit into to those or how do you see reaching those goals 
Social-Cognition Learning - influence of environment
  • look at your locus of control: is it internal or external?

Answer the following questions:

    • What scenes in the show accurately portray teenage life?
    • Select three adolescent characters from the show and discuss how they fit into one of the four identity states in James Marcia's theory.
    • Identify and describe social groups that exist at MPH

Identity Crisis in Song Project

  1. Find a song that demonstrate some of the emotions and conflicts that occur during adolescence. Refer to Marcia’s identity crisis stages for guidance.

2.            Explain what the song means to you and why you chose it.

3.            Create a list of emotions/conflicts/experiences reflected in the song, (such as apathy, self-doubt, self-confidence…)

2) Write a one page essay on either Phineas Gage or Kevin Pearce, answering the following questions:
  • How did the accident affect Kevin/Phineas' brain and behavior?
  • Were other people integral to their recovery? How?
  • What were their limitations? Why?
  • What lessons can we learn from their story?
Make sure you use specific examples from the reading or film.

b) Find one controversial Psychological experiment (your choice) and bring your idea to class on Friday.
